Unofficial History of the 40th ARRS, Udorn and NKP

Special thanks to the USAF Museum for allowing me access to this document.

I have endeavored to retain the flavor of this document for the reader. It is important for the reader to notices the differences in the format and content of this document over its life span. As the Vietnam war ebbed and flowed so did the content of the history. The reader will notice the content is terse, clipped and to the point for most of the document. The reader will notice some years are completely or partially missing, as is the case for 1968 and 1971. The pace of the war did not lend itself to exagerated write ups of the units history. This can only be seen following the cesation of hostilities in early 1973 and the movement towards a more relaxed Stateside manner of operations.

The names of personnel in this document have been protected to the best of my ability. Only last names are used. I have left cases of rank and last name as they are. Likewise, where a person is known deceased I have not modified the name. Also the same applies for names that are already a matter of public record and have been used elsewhere. Such as the case of the Mayaguez rescue.
